Jaw Pain
The jaw joint or tempromandibular joint, gets it's name from the two jaw bones: the temporal bone of the skull and the mandible or lower jaw bone. These two bones, along with bundles of muscles, ligaments and nerves fit together to form this complex joint. Pain and soreness in the jaw is often from a condition called TMJ or Tempro-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction Syndrome. This condition results from a combination of a bad bite, stress, grinding of the teeth or misalignment in the jaw. The results can be quite painful and include headaches, ringing in the ears, inability or limitations when opening the mouth, clicking, cracking or popping when opening the mouth, pain in the ear, face, neck or shoulder regions.
Examination includes determining the balance of the joint activity and the muscles that move the haw bones through its range of motion. Imbalance can often be corrected with Applied Kinesiology techniques. Release of muscular spasm and realignment of the joint will eliminate the common popping noises associated with TMJ. Call Dr Hopson for a personal condition to determine the best course of treatment to help with this painful condition.
